Comprehensive evaluation of the token
Ribbon Finance (RBN) is an effectively deprecated token following the DAO-approved merger into Aevo in July 2023 via a 1:1 token swap. The legacy RBN token suffers from virtually zero trading volume, minimal liquidity, and stalled development activity on its primary repositories as the core team transitioned focus to Aevo. A data gap exists in Community Support (scored -1.0), as no active standalone RBN community remains. In addition, the protocol suffered a major security incident: "On December 12, 2025, legacy Ribbon DOV (digital option vault) smart contracts were exploited for approximately $2.7 million (sources: Halborn, Cryptopolitan, Web3 Is Going Great, Bitget News)." This incident was caused by an oracle decimal misconfiguration introduced in a contract update and remains only partially compensated (leaving an unrecovered shortfall of up to ~81% for affected depositors). Given the protocol deprecation, migration to AEVO, lack of liquidity, and recent unresolved exploit, holding or trading the legacy RBN token carries extreme risk.

About Ribbon Finance (RBN)
Ribbon Finance (RBN) is a deprecated token that migrated to AEVO following a DAO-approved merger in July 2023 via a 1:1 token swap. Operating as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, Ribbon Finance was founded in 2021 by Julian Joh and Ken Chan, receiving venture backing from firms including Paradigm and Coinbase. The protocol was originally designed as a non-custodial asset management platform focused on automated options-selling strategies, including Theta Vaults and Delta Vaults.
The RBN token was utilized primarily for protocol governance and staking. Following the approval of the merger into Aevo, primary development on Ribbon Finance repositories ceased as the engineering team shifted focus to the Aevo derivatives platform. The legacy RBN token has experienced severe market distress, declining over 99% from its all-time high and exhibiting minimal trading volume and liquidity.
On December 12, 2025, legacy Ribbon digital option vault (DOV) smart contracts were exploited for approximately $2.7 million due to an oracle decimal misconfiguration introduced in a smart contract update. In response, the protocol paused and permanently disabled all Ribbon vaults. The associated compensation plan offered affected depositors up to 19% of missing vault funds along with $400,000 contributed by the team, leaving an unrecovered shortfall of approximately 81% across a claims window running through June 12, 2026.
