Comprehensive evaluation of the token
Origin Dollar (OUSD) is a fully collateralized, yield-bearing stablecoin backed 1:1 by USDC and deployed on Ethereum. The protocol distributes automated yield directly to holders via rebasing mechanics across integrated DeFi venues like Morpho and Curve. On governance and security, OUSD benefits from an established, public team under Origin Protocol, structured DAO governance, and an extensive audit trail from top-tier firms including OpenZeppelin and Sigma Prime. Although the protocol suffered a notable $7.7M reentrancy exploit in November 2020, the incident has been thoroughly remediated, peg stability has been restored, and no subsequent exploits have occurred. However, the project faces material limitations: active development has largely shifted toward OETH (leaving OUSD in maintenance mode), community engagement is low, and market adoption remains constrained with a modest $6.2M market cap, thin daily trading volume, and fierce competition from major stablecoin alternatives.

About Origin Dollar (OUSD)
Origin Dollar (OUSD) is an elastic supply, yield-bearing stablecoin issued by Origin Protocol on the Ethereum blockchain. Fully collateralized and backed 1:1 by USDC, OUSD automatically generates yield by allocating deposited collateral across decentralized finance protocols such as Morpho and Curve. Yield is distributed directly to holders' wallets via automated supply rebasing, allowing balances to grow over time without requiring staking or manual lockups. A non-rebasing wrapped version, wOUSD, is also available via the EIP-4626 standard.
Governance and fee accrual for the protocol are managed not by OUSD holders, but through Origin Protocol's native governance token, OGN. All protocol fees, including a 20% performance fee on generated yield, accrue to OGN holders. Contract upgrades are governed through a structured decentralized autonomous organization with a timelock, alongside an emergency Guardian multisig. In recent cycles, active development within the protocol's shared codebase has shifted primarily toward Origin Ether (OETH), leaving OUSD in a maintenance posture. Market adoption remains modest, with a market capitalization of approximately $6.2 million and thin secondary market trading volume.
In November 2020, OUSD experienced a major security incident when an attacker exploited a reentrancy vulnerability in the mint logic using a flash loan, draining approximately $7.7 million (comprising 11,809 ETH and 2,249,821 DAI) from the protocol's vault. The exploit caused the token's price to depeg to approximately $0.54 during the attack, with secondary market quotes dropping further before trading was halted. Origin Protocol subsequently published a post-mortem, introduced a bug bounty program, implemented protocol remediation, and completed external security audits with firms including OpenZeppelin and Sigma Prime. The token's peg has since fully recovered to its targeted $1.00 value.
