Comprehensive evaluation of the token
Helium (HNT) demonstrates a solid operational foundation with strong active development (8.0/10) via formal Helium Improvement Proposals (HIPs) such as HIP 0149, regular SDK/token tooling updates, and substantial real-world usage across over 130,000 hotspots. Its public and experienced founding team and governance structure (7.5/10) reflect transparent leadership transitions and established DAO voting mechanisms. Tokenomics (6.5/10) incorporate a functional burn-and-mint equilibrium linked to network data credits and fixed emission halvings, though detailed insider vesting allocations remain unverified. Market and use case (6.0/10) highlights genuine decentralized wireless utility and telecom integrations, offset by severe historical drawdowns and competitive pressure. Community support (6.8/10) remains engaged across governance portals and DePIN discussions. The Security and Audit score (3.5/10) is constrained primarily by the lack of verified third-party audits in the retrieved records and significant unrecovered price drawdown from all-time highs; however, the protocol maintains an active HackerOne bug bounty and has no documented exploit or bad debt events. No qualifying red-flag events apply to cap the overall score.

About Helium (HNT)
Helium (HNT) is the native cryptocurrency of the Helium Network, a decentralized wireless network designed to provide Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G connectivity. Founded in 2013 by Amir Haleem, Shawn Fanning, and Sean, the network utilizes a Proof-of-Coverage mechanism and community-operated hotspots to verify and provide wireless coverage. In April 2023, the Helium protocol completed a network migration to the Solana blockchain. Executive leadership transitioned with Mario Di Dio serving as Chief Executive Officer and Amir Haleem serving as Chairman.
The network operates on a burn-and-mint equilibrium model where HNT is burned to generate Data Credits required for network transaction and data transfer fees. Governance is structured through the Helium DAO and subDAOs using Helium Improvement Proposals (HIPs) and veHNT vote-escrow staking. In accordance with HIP-20, HNT implements a two-year halving schedule—most recently halving in August 2025 to an emission rate of 7.5 million HNT annually—towards a hard cap of 223 million HNT.
The project faces notable market and regulatory risks. HNT experienced a steep market drawdown exceeding 90% from its November 2021 all-time high of approximately $55.22. Additionally, in January 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a civil action against Nova Labs alleging unregistered securities offerings connected to HNT. While the network operates a public bug bounty program on HackerOne, protocol evaluation records reflect an absence of verified third-party smart contract audits alongside competition across the decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) sector.
