Comprehensive evaluation of the token
Ethena (ENA) exhibits strong active development (8.0/10) with major milestones such as HyENA on Hyperliquid, continuous proof-of-reserves attestations, and upcoming restaking integrations. Market adoption and use-case integration (6.5/10) are solid with USDe scaling to multi-billion dollar supplies across major centralized and decentralized venues. The team and governance structure (6.5/10) features experienced leadership, though decision-making remains heavily concentrated in the Risk Committee and foundation. Tokenomics (5.5/10) are pressured by significant insider allocations (~55%) and continuous linear unlocks through April 2027, despite emerging value-accrual mechanisms like the fee switch and sENA staking. Community engagement (4.5/10) is active on-chain but limited in governance volume. Security and audit history (4.5/10) reflects comprehensive multi-firm audits and an Immunefi bug bounty, though the score was constrained by a severe market drawdown from ATH and a temporary September 2024 domain registrar front-end compromise (with no protocol-level contract exploit or loss of smart contract funds). No qualifying red-flag event triggers an overall cap, yielding a weighted score of 6.0/10.

About Ethena (ENA)
Ethena (ENA) is the native governance and staking token for Ethena, a decentralized finance protocol that issues the synthetic dollar USDe. Founded in March 2023 by Guy Young, the protocol collateralizes USDe using staked Ethereum assets paired with delta-neutral short derivative positions to capture yield from funding rates and staking rewards. Within the system, ENA holders participate in protocol governance and can stake tokens into sENA (an ERC-4626 implementation) to access staking mechanisms and proposed revenue-sharing initiatives.
The protocol's ecosystem includes the HyENA perpetual decentralized exchange built on Hyperliquid's HIP-3 standard, institutional integrations across venues such as Binance, Kraken, and Aave, and planned generalized restaking integrations with Symbiotic. Core risk parameters, collateral management, and protocol operations are overseen by the Ethena Foundation and a dedicated Risk Committee, while reserves are verified via regular custodian attestations and proof-of-reserves reports.
Ethena has faced challenges regarding token valuation and security operations. In September 2024, the project experienced an operational security incident when its domain registrar account was compromised, temporarily exposing users to a malicious front-end interface, though protocol smart contracts and funds remained uncompromised. The token has also experienced a price decline of approximately 90% to 94% from its all-time high of $1.52. Additionally, the tokenomics model carries supply overhang risks, as roughly 55% of the 15 billion fixed supply is allocated to core contributors and investors subject to ongoing linear vesting schedules extending through April 2027.
