Comprehensive evaluation of the token
Aeternity (AE) presents significant fundamental and market challenges, resulting in an overall score of 3.5/10. Data gaps were identified in Community Support (-1.0) and Tokenomics (-1.0) due to insufficient project-specific metrics in the retrieved data, and their weights were proportionally redistributed among the remaining sections. Aeternity retains a recognized public founding team and open-source architecture (Team & Governance: 6.0/10), but development activity has stalled into a maintenance-only posture with no new major protocol deployments since mid-2024 (Active Development: 3.0/10). Security history reflects two significant historical exploits—a ~$30M shared loss in the 2017 Parity multisig vulnerability and a ~$5.2M exploit in December 2020—alongside an absence of verifiable third-party audit reports (Security: 3.5/10). Most critically, AE suffers from severe market degradation (Market & Use Case: 1.5/10), characterized by a market cap below $2M and near-zero daily trading volume, reflecting critical illiquidity and a lack of competitive traction.

About Aeternity (AE)
Aeternity (AE) is an open-source Layer-1 smart contract blockchain platform founded in 2016 and headquartered in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. Led by founder Yanislav Malahov and COO Emin Mahrt alongside the Aeternity Foundation, the network was established following an initial coin offering (ICO) in June 2017 and subsequently transitioned through a historical mainnet migration from an initial ERC-20 token. The platform is designed around scalable smart contracts, decentralized oracles, state channels, and token-weighted on-chain governance involving miners, users, and developers.
The project maintains an open-source GitHub presence with a history of semantic-versioned software releases, including the v7.0.0 Ceres update deployed in mid-2024. However, technical development has transitioned into a maintenance posture, with no new verified protocol updates deployed since mid-2024 and its announced Hyperchains upgrade remaining pending implementation.
Aeternity's operational history includes two notable security incidents. In July 2017, Aeternity was one of three ICO-funded projects affected by a vulnerability in Parity Technologies' multisig wallet software, which led to a collective loss of approximately $30 million in ETH from ICO treasuries. In December 2020, an access-control exploit resulted in an additional loss of approximately $5.2 million. In addition to the absence of verifiable third-party security audit reports in available records, the project faces severe market illiquidity, characterized by a market capitalization below $2 million and near-zero daily trading volumes.
