Comprehensive evaluation of the token
1USDC represents Harmony Horizon Bridged USDC on the Harmony network. Following the catastrophic Horizon bridge exploit on June 23, 2022, in which approximately $97–100M in bridge assets (including the USDC collateral) were drained, the asset suffered an unresolved and permanent depeg. It currently trades at an over 99% discount ($0.002 to $0.0099) with negligible liquidity. The bridge infrastructure remains defunct with no direct par redemption mechanism or viable migration path for legacy holders, reducing 1USDC to an unbacked legacy asset. Note: Active Development lacked sufficient independent data (-1.0) and was excluded from the weighted score calculation. The qualifying red-flag event is established in the Security evaluation: "On June 23, 2022 at 11:06:46 AM UTC, attackers exploited the Horizon bridge's Ethereum side across twelve attack transactions and three attack addresses, draining approximately $97–100M (CertiK; TechCrunch)." Because the loss remains unrecovered and unbacked, the asset is functionally defunct.

About Harmony Horizon Bridged USDC (Harmony) (1USDC)
1USDC (Harmony Horizon Bridged USDC) is a legacy bridge derivative token deployed on the Harmony blockchain. It was designed as a wrapped representation of Circle's USDC, created via a 1:1 lock-and-mint mechanism managed by Harmony's proprietary Horizon bridge to facilitate cross-chain transfers between Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Harmony shard-0. The token has a circulating supply of approximately 22.26 million tokens and does not grant governance rights to holders.
The token suffered a catastrophic and permanent depeg following the June 23, 2022 exploit of the Horizon bridge. Attackers compromised encrypted multisig private keys on the Ethereum side of the bridge, draining approximately $97 million to $100 million in digital assets, which explicitly included the USDC collateral backing 1USDC. Because the underlying reserves were stolen and not recovered, the token's market price collapsed by more than 99% from its $1.00 nominal value, trading between $0.002 and $0.0099 with negligible daily volume.
Following the exploit, Harmony halted the bridge infrastructure and reported the incident to law enforcement, later updating the bridge multisig to a 4-of-5 configuration. Subsequent recovery efforts, such as the HIP-30v2 proposal to allocate validator staking emissions toward depegged asset buybacks, have not provided a complete redemption path at par for legacy holders. With the Horizon bridge shut down and ongoing ecosystem challenges—including a subsequent security exploit on Harmony's native ONE token involving an unauthorized mint of approximately 4 billion tokens—1USDC remains an unbacked, functionally defunct legacy asset.
